 Plug n' Play did not work out of the box September 4, 2010

The device did not install on my Windows 7 PC. The plug n' play feature failed to install the device drivers. I tried uninstalling the drivers and scanning for new hardware, but all attempts failed. I am returning it for a different brand.

Did not work when I received it. No information in manual about installation. I am assuming this is plug and play, as I said no information was provided in the manual or on the Toshiba website. Be careful when ordering this, as this was a waste of my time. Feel very frustrated because of the lack of information anywhere on the Toshiba website. Also, they make it very difficult just to find an email address to contact somebody on their site.

Plug-no-play. I pulled it out of the box, tried for an hour to get my laptop to see it, failed; tried my 2 desktop machines, no; tried my friend's 2 laptops, still nothing. Return.
 Fine as a disc drive August 31, 2010

I've Had it a few days and it works fine as a disc drive. The install was flawless and the short USB cord no problem for me. My complaint is the backup software included with the drive. Under Windows XP, signed on as a non-administraror userid the backup software cannot see the drive. If you do a "Run AS" and run the backup software under an administrator userid it sees the drive but defaults to backung up the files and folders of that userid, not the userid which is signed on to the system. Also you cannot change which files and folders get backed up. The only way I was able to get the software to work was to sign on as the computer administrator. Then It would see the drive. It still wanterd to backup the files and folders of that userid so I had to manually select the files and folders for the userid I really wanted to backup.
I'll most likley wind up using the Windows XP backup program.

This is the second Toshiba external storage HDD I have purchased. They both are light and very easy to use. I liked the backup software that came with the older lower capicity HDD it was an older version of NTI Shadow but the new backup software by NTI is useable. It is just great that they have been able to put 1TB of storage in such a small package and power it with only the USB connect cable.
